Welcome Back and Happy 2009!
Congrats again to @howardgr for being named "The Cleverest Twitterer of 2008"!

We're shifting to a new weekly format:
Every Wednesday at 5pm we will post winners from two weeks back, new Top 5 to vote on, and the new Old Saying for the week.
This is how New Yorker Caption Contest does it and we're big fans.

To keep things fresh, we'll announce a new "Cleverest Twitterer" every month and then reset the scoreboard.

To start things off, here's the first Old Saying of 2009:

Bantu Old Saying:

"Every beast roars..."

Submit your clever ending as a DM @OldSayingGame by Wednesday, January 7 at 5pm EST.
e.g. d OldSayingGame Every beast roars loudest in his own den.

Good luck!

HOW TO PLAY, EXAMPLE, AND SCORING

Start by following the OLD SAYING GAME on Twitter now

HOW TO PLAY:

1. We tweet half of an obscure old saying every Wednesday

2. Direct reply to @OldSayingGame (see example below) with your completed version of the old saying by 4:45pm EST the following Wednesday

3. You vote at http://bit.ly/K50b (don’t forget to tell your friends to vote -- but you can't tell them which one is yours, otherwise you'll get disqualified)

Voting closes at the following Wednesday when we announced the winners of the following week and the new OLD SAYING.

EXAMPLE:

Norwegian Old Saying:

"One does not look at the moon..."

You complete the saying and direct reply with something clever, like:

d OldSayingGame Norwegian Old Saying:

"One does not look at the moon if his eyes are filled with tears."

By the way, the real saying is:

"One does not look at the moon when the sun is up."
